The Insane Car




 

My brother originally purchased this car for $1000 in 1999. The first set up we had in it was a very mild and cheap 350 that ran consistent 12.80’s in Douglas. I later installed a low buck tunnel ram 454 from another car and had the car running 11.20’s. The car was not very appealing to the eyes with its dark gray primered exterior and bare metal interior. It was ugly to say the least. But we did win Pro ET and Street brackets in Douglas several times and the car saw A LOT of street action over the years. In late 2003 the car was painted for the first time and I did a little more work to the 454. It was running consistent 10.30’s in Kearney and turning lots of heads. In late 2004, after 5 years of faithful service, the old tried and trued 454 broke a valve.

A good friend of mine Matt Titus, owner of The Shop, loaned me his little small-block with the stipulation that I had to impress some people with it. So, I bought a set of cheap headers bolted the motor in and installed a nitrous plate. The first trip to Kearney Raceway the car ran consistent 10.30’s without nitrous. At the end of the day, I turned the bottle on and ran a 9.74 then a 9.47. The car has since made over 30 clean nitrous passes in the 9’s and countless motor passes all in the 10’s.

In 2008 I will be running a huge turbo and switching to EFI with a variation of an iron block LS series GM engine. I am also switching to a Powerglide as the car’s old TH400 now resides in 9 second V6 Syclone.

Front: shock extensions, 213# springs, modified bushings, 90/10 shocks
10 point cage, certified to go 8.50’s
